The first half of The Very Metal Diary Of Cleo Howard is available to watch on Youtube. I decided to record it using a comic book mode because I liked the look of it. I think of this first episode as the bad hair episode. My actual hair was pink at the time but I wanted to look like Cleo Howard, who is ginger, hence the wig.
The Very Metal Diary Of Cleo Howard 1997 is available on Soundcloud
You can hear me read the first half of The Very Metal Diary Of Cleo Howard on Soundcloud. I am blushing when I read the slightly rude bits. I like the idea of being on a cloud.
Meeting other authors is very inspiring
I met two awesome heavy metal authors this week; Mick Wall and Joel McIver. Both were at Blackwells in Oxford (my favourite bookshop) where Mick was talking to Joel McIver (and us, the audience) about his book about Lemmy. I’ll write a lengthy and emotional post about what Lemmy means to me at some point but for now be assured that he was a hero of mine.
Mick Wall very kindly agreed to be photographed with Heavy Metal Panda, the mascot for the Eviscerated Panda series. I bought Mick’s autobiography and I’m looking forward to reading about him putting himself about a bit in the eighties, to a soundtrack of music I love. I also bought his AC/DC biography as a gift for my sister (a love of music clearly runs in our family. My Mum is partially deaf and likes Cliff Richard so make of that what you will).
I had an interesting chat with Joel McIver about one of his most recent titles about Dave Ellefson and bought both that and his book about Black Sabbath the minute I got home. One of the best treats in the world is new books.

Go on, treat yourself to a heavy read!
A big heavy metal hello to you…
I’ve been writing heavy metal fiction since 2012. I love it. At 42 I’ve found my dream job. I always knew 42 was important (thank you Douglas Adams). I don’t have an agent for my writing yet but that is my aim. I’m going to have a book signing one day too. Right now when people ask me to sign my books I feel naughty, like I’m scribbling in something I shouldn’t. Respect the books, you don’t know where they can lead you.
I’ve got a head fizzy with ambition but I’ve sort of forgotten to tell anyone outside of heavy metal about my books, so that’s what this website aims to do. I haven’t had a website since the old Yahoo Geocities days but I’m sure I can press some words with this new fangled WordPress thingie.
